Casper is the first future-resistant blockchain to be launched based on the Casper CBC protocol. It is a layer 1 blockchain and Turing-complete smart contract platform with a Proof-of-Stake consensus method and WebAssembly support (WASM). Casper is a public, permissionless, decentralised blockchain that intends to expedite the adoption of blockchain technology by organisations and corporations.

Architecture


A collection of validators aids the Casper network in confirming transactions and maintaining the integrity of the network. In contrast to Proof-of-Work networks, which require centralised validators for economies of scale, Casper permits the geographical decentralisation of validators. Validators of Casper participate in the Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism by validating transactions based on staked tokens and collecting CSPR incentives.


Mechanism of accord


Casper employs an enhanced Proof-of-Stake model called the Highway. It addresses the scalability and performance limitations that have significantly hindered blockchain adoption to until point. The highway protocol is based on the original Casper CBC specification, but with substantial improvements. It inherits certain advantageous characteristics of traditional Byzantine Fault Tolerance (BFT) consensus procedures, but also includes two significant enhancements. First, Casper Highway enables the network to reach greater levels of finality, meaning that more blocks are completed and validators can add them to the blockchain. Second, Highway accomplishes flexibility through the expression of block finality, unlike standard BFT models.

Technical design


Casper communicates with the network using the following techniques:


Identity: Each network node has an identity known as network identity (ID), which is based on the fingerprint of the public key of a self-signed TLS certificate.

Inter-node connections: When a node desires to connect to another node with a known endpoint, it makes a TLS connection to the endpoint's address.

Network: Typically, any network node can link to any other network node, resulting in a network that is fully connected.

Gossiping is the technique of disseminating a value throughout a network without transmitting it directly to each node.

Requesting missing data Nodes can also spread data over the network by requesting missing data from peers, if necessary.

Node discovery occurs when each node periodically broadcasts its public address, which results in node discovery.
